Patient Care Technician- PCT- Nights
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision in the 3 West Med Surg department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. The position is full-time nights, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The technician assists patients with ambulation and activities of daily living, reports and documents changes in patients’ conditions, maintains clean and orderly rooms and medical equipment, and performs specified technical patient care duties under the direction of a staff nurse. Duties also include recording vital signs, weight, and intake and output, as well as other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer.
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after discharge.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff, and document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
