About The Position

Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans determined or delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. Assists with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of the patient care unit, remaining flexible to meet patient and unit needs. The position is in General Surgery at RGH and has 36 hours per week, with 7 a.m.–7 p.m. and 7 p.m.–7 a.m. shifts and rotating weekends.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.

Nice To Haves

Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, CNA certification, experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program.
Associate degree.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care and indirect activities that facilitate unit functioning.
Participate as a member of the care delivery team.
Provide safe and competent care related to patients’ nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens.
Take patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level.
Communicate with compassion and provide support to patients and their family members.
Communicate effectively with care delivery team members and model teamwork.
Assist with ambulation, feeding, transferring, or lifting patients.
Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Perform clerical duties as needed, including transcription and maintenance of patient charts.
Assist patients with mobility, such as sitting, standing, and walking.
For cath lab only: stock rooms and potentially handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the OR field.
