This position provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients. The role involves maintaining a safe and clean environment, managing supplies and equipment, and performing UPMC nursing core responsibilities for nursing assistants. These core responsibilities include point-of-care testing (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O), telemetry monitor application, prevention of Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs) and patient safety indicators, urine specimen collection, restraint application and removal, and intra-hospital transportation. The position also requires providing companionship and supervision one-on-one with patients as needed and strictly adhering to all policies and practices related to patient care and hospital information. The role also involves responding to emergent situations within the scope of a nursing assistant and demonstrating understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions.
