About The Position

The Telemetry Technician at Harrisburg Hospital is responsible for providing continuous cardiac monitoring for patients on telemetry. This role involves interpreting cardiac rhythms, identifying normal rhythms and basic arrhythmias, and immediately reporting changes outside stated parameters to the appropriate nursing unit. The technician also instructs staff on troubleshooting minor problems, maintains a clean and safe environment in the Telemetry Observation Center (TOC) area, performs routine maintenance on telemetry equipment, and manages patient documents and supplies. The position requires total concentration on multiple monitors over extended periods and the ability to respond to urgent and emergency situations within established guidelines, ensuring safe patient care and accurate data reporting. The technician is expected to maintain effective communication, interact positively with patients, families, physicians, and staff, and uphold Hamot's commitment to Service Excellence.

Requirements

  • High School graduate (or completion of G.E.D.)
  • Completion of Telemetry/Arrhythmia Course within 3 months of date of hire.
  • Ability to provide total concentration on a number of monitors over an extended period of time
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm of patients on in house telemetry
  • Ability to respond to and communicate emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Instructs staff on nursing units to troubleshoot with minor problems (i.e., lead placement).
  • Identifies own learning needs and sets personal education goals.
  • Aware of quality improvement issues in the T.O.C. on the unit and contributes appropriately.
  • Maintains effective inter- and intra-departmental communications, both written and oral.
  • Interacts positively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff and other disciplines.
