About The Position

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Observation Unit at Deaconess Gateway, you'll play an important role in delivering exceptional patient care while working alongside a dedicated team of nurses and healthcare professionals. The Observation Unit at the Gateway Campus is a 32-bed department designed to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who require short-term monitoring and care. Because patients typically stay between 8 and 24 hours, team members gain exposure to a wide variety of diagnoses and medical conditions, making this an outstanding environment for learning and professional development. This fast-paced setting helps build critical thinking, prioritization, and time-management skills. You will have opportunities to work closely with nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary care teams, and be actively involved in coordinating patient care, communicating results, and supporting care transitions. This role offers meaningful interactions with patients and families during important decision-making moments within a collaborative team environment focused on delivering efficient, patient-centered care.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification within six months of hire

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Responsibilities

• Assisting patients with personal care needs such as bathing, oral hygiene, toileting, and linen changes
• Supporting mobility, repositioning, transfers, and ambulation
• Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient observations
• Recording important patient information accurately in medical records
• Providing compassionate care and emotional support to patients and their families throughout their stay
