About The Position

Spencer Hospital is seeking a caring and skilled Patient Care Technician for the ICU. This is a regular full-time position primarily working days with rotating weekends and holidays. Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital in northwest Iowa with over 500 employees, offering competitive salaries and benefits in a pleasant work environment. Requirements

• Must be a caring communicator, flexible, and able to multitask.
• Must be comfortable with technological systems.
• CNA certification at minimum is required.
• BLS required or willing to obtain upon hire (in-house education available).
• Must be willing to float to other areas in times of low census or greater need.

Responsibilities

• Provides personal needs for patients, including grooming (am/pm care, shaving/preps, bathing, oral hygiene), feeding, bedside glucose testing, and obtaining laboratory samples (urinalysis, sputum specimen, etc.).
• Maintains a clean, organized, and therapeutic patient environment.
• Manages the transporting and re-stocking of supplies and other patient care items.
• Ensures efficient management of written and verbal patient information.
• Prepares and maintains the medical record, including charts for admission, transfer, and dismissal.
• Maintains patient confidentiality, protecting the medical record, order communication data, and all other patient information.
• Transcribes physician orders under the supervision of licensed nurses.
• Monitors new orders and ensures verification by the RN/LPN.
• Identifies and places appropriate pre-printed orders and consents on the medical record.
• Recognizes and utilizes medical terminology and approved abbreviations.
• Assists with patient transfers within the hospital and to external facilities.
• Participates in departmental/cleaning activities as assigned.
• Follows appropriate cleaning and sanitation standards.
• Completes and submits daily cleaning checklists for assigned work areas.
• Performs spot cleaning of carpets when floor maintenance staff is busy or unavailable.
• Floats to high-needs departments (including patient care and environmental services) during times of low census.
