About The Position

This position provides direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff. Responsibilities include assisting patients with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, performing basic treatments, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. The role also involves reporting changes in patient condition, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety standards. The Patient Care Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, providing emotional support to patients and their families, and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous patient care experience required.

Nice To Haves

Nursing or medical students preferred.
CMA preferred.
Current AMA BLS preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists with ADLs, hygiene, mobility, toileting, and emotional support.
Administers basic treatments such as dressing changes, telemetry, and specimen collection.
Supports nursing personnel in providing direct patient care.
Assists patients with daily activities and measures/records daily weights.
Discontinues foley catheters.
Measures and records vital signs, I&Os, and monitors patient condition.
Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and blood glucose monitoring.
Reports changes in patient condition, recognizing abnormal vital signs and I&O findings.
Participates in daily Huddle and documents timely in the patient's medical record.
Demonstrates flexibility in responding to patient needs and completes assignments.
Works as a team member to meet unit needs.
Performs activities as needed without supervision.
Answers call lights promptly and courteously.
Ensures call bell and telephone are within reach of patient.
Cleans, stocks, and sets up rooms for arriving patients.
Checks for appropriate patient IDs, falls, and allergy information.
Ensures patient rooms are neat and clean.
Responds to bed and chair alarms promptly.
Works as Patient Safety Technician as needed.
Rounds with purpose using appropriate scripting.
Gives report to oncoming shift.
Observes and responds to emotional needs of patients and significant others.
Reports observations to RN for follow-up.
Seeks information regarding teaching goals for individual patients.
Reinforces RN instructions to patients as needed.
Maintains a log of all equipment sent for repair.
Reports lost or unrepairable equipment to the charge nurse.
Returns rental equipment in a timely manner.
Keeps equipment cleaned and charged.
Notifies unit associate of equipment needing repair and attaches appropriate repair tag.
Orients new staff in the care of equipment.
Adheres to OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards.
Observes and maintains isolation precautions.
Follows hand washing protocol.
Maintains a clean and clutter-free work environment.
Uses and stores equipment properly.
Wears and uses communication devices (Vocera) according to policy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
