About The Position

The PCT provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.

Requirements

Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum.
VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261.
Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.
Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinical rotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) years
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Nice To Haves

Acute care experience as a nursing assistant or aide experience

Responsibilities

Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
