PATIENT CARE TECH - OBSERVATION UNIT
About The Position
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works alongside nurses and doctors to provide direct patient care. Their responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse. The PCT operates under the direct supervision of a nurse, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and correctly. This role may also involve duties similar to a Unit Clerk, assisting with administrative tasks and paperwork to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital and optimal patient care. PCTs are considered essential members of the healthcare team, contributing significantly to patient recovery and well-being.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained at orientation)
- Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training OR
- Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom) OR
- Currently in nursing school and finished one clinical rotation
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, even when interrupted, while maintaining a positive demeanor
- Computer proficiency
- Good organizational skills
- Effective communication and listening skills

- Previous experience working in a hospital
Responsibilities
- Check things like temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
- Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat
- Collect samples like urine
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse
- Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals
- Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly
