About The Position

The Patient Care Tech supports licensed professional nurses caring for patients in Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s High Risk Cardiology unit. The role provides direct patient care under nurse supervision, helps maintain a safe healing environment, gathers patient information, and reports changes in condition to the nursing team. Patients in the unit may require advanced medication infusions and care following cardiac procedures. The care team includes registered nurses, patient/student nurse technicians, residents, interns, and other medical professionals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
• CNA, PCT, EMT, or Surgical Tech experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Perform vital signs, intake and output measurements, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collect clinical data and report changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.
• Participate in activities promoting patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional development.
