About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT), also referred to as a C.N.A. or Medical Assistant, works in the 5 North General Medicine/Observation department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. Under the direction of a registered nurse, the PCT provides direct patient care that considers patients’ age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The role also helps maintain a clean, safe environment that supports patient and family wellbeing and relationship-based care.

5 North is a 34-bed medical inpatient unit caring for medical observation, stroke, and general medicine patients. The unit can monitor up to 16 patients on telemetry. Colleagues work as an interdisciplinary team to provide respectful, patient-centered care to a diverse patient population. The position offers opportunities to learn and develop skills, build a foundation for nursing practice, and develop critical thinking while caring for patients with a variety of diagnoses. Training is provided.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of previous direct care experience in acute or long-term care, or successful completion of a CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed the nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation with assistive devices, feeding, and menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
• Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
• Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
• Help establish and maintain a clean, safe patient care environment that supports patient and family wellbeing.
