About The Position

The Patient Care Tech provides patient care under the supervision of the Staff Nurse. Duties include assisting with activities of daily living, collecting non-invasive specimens, transporting unmonitored patients, preparing patients for procedures, collecting vital signs, and performing unit-specific procedures and tasks for which documented competencies are required. The role supports Emory Healthcare’s mission, values, and quality commitment, and works as part of a team to ensure appropriate resources are available to internal and external customers.

The position is on the 2N Observation Unit and has a day shift schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., totaling 36 weekly hours. On-call work is typically not required.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• One year of experience as a patient care tech or similar title in a hospital; alternatively, two years of patient care assisting experience in other health care facilities or one year of experience as a medical technician or hospital corpsman in the U.S. Armed Forces. The experience requirement is eliminated by current enrollment in the clinical portion of a nursing program or completion of a PCT, CNA, or Medical Assistant program.
• Current AHA-BLS certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital professional services, documentation, departmental responsibilities, anatomy and physiology, infection control, vital signs, medical records, charting, obtaining health histories, assisting with physical exams, specimen collection, patient-focused care, and clean and sterile dressing changes.
