About The Position

The Patient Care Tech supports patients and the care team in the ICU Neuro unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Under the supervision of a nurse, the role provides direct patient care and helps maintain a safe environment by reducing risk of harm. The tech collects patient information and reports changes to the nursing team to contribute to patient assessment and care. This is a part-time position of 36 hours per week, working nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with a holiday rotation and every-third-weekend schedule.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
• Preferred experience as a CNA, PCT, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under nurse supervision, promoting patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living; perform vital signs, intake and output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collect clinical data and patient information, and report changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet each patient's needs.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional development.
