About The Position

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care. The position supports the Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA) Surgical and Neuroscience ICU (2 North) a 20-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma hospital. Patients admitted to the SNICU require intensive care monitoring including those patients with hemodynamic instability, compromised respiratory status and frequent neurological monitoring during the post-operative period of hospitalization. The population of patients includes cardiothoracic surgery, trauma, vascular and general surgeries. Additionally, the SNICU treats a wide range of serious neurological conditions, including both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. The SNICU has expanded its neuroscience capabilities by acquiring a biplane and thrombectomy certification.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

Assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
Collects and sends specimens including blood and blood cultures.
Inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters.
Records patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
