About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the Neuroscience Unit collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They perform essential tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities like moving, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in patient condition to a nurse. The PCT works under the supervision of a nurse and may also assist with administrative tasks, similar to a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital and optimal patient care. PCTs are vital members of the healthcare team, contributing to patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities, ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting.
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, even with interruptions, while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous direct patient care experience may excuse from fundamental training (BCOP) upon successful skills validation.
  • Previous hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
  • Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
  • Collect samples like urine.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
  • Perform Walks, ADLs, Weighing Patients; Vitals.
  • Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
