About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on 3NW General Medicine performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff, and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient. This role involves meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients, assisting with patient testing and treatment procedures, and performing technical tasks such as setting up and priming IV tubing, conducting 12-lead ECGs, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changing dressings, and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The PCT also obtains wound and throat cultures, assists with equipment supply and setup, and helps with ambulating patients using assistive devices and with transfer/transport procedures. Key responsibilities include performing required documentation and communicating effectively to meet patient and family needs and regulatory requirements, while maintaining strict confidentiality. The position emphasizes utilizing time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
  • Less than one year of previous job-related experience
  • Certified Nurse Assistant
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA
  • Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program
  • Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position
