About The Position

The Patient Care Tech provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans determined or delegated by a licensed nurse. The role executes assigned tasks and skills while delivering quality, safe care and supporting a positive patient experience. The position is in the Emergency Department at Unity in Rochester, New York, for 24 hours per week, with an evening/night schedule of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree.
Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, CNA certification, or one year of experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility is strongly preferred.
Excellent customer service and communication skills are highly desired.

Responsibilities

Clean appropriate equipment, change bed linens, stock supplies in patient rooms or the unit, and prepare rooms for anticipated admissions.
Provide safe and competent care related to patients’ nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and comfort measures.
Perform clinical duties under RN direction or supervision, including taking vital signs, pulse oximetry, performing EKGs, providing one-to-one care, and assisting with admissions and discharges.
Collect and dispose of designated specimens using correct procedures.
Communicate with compassion and professionalism.
Assist with safe ambulation and transfers, using lift devices appropriately.
Follow departmental safety initiatives.
Assist with post-mortem care.
Meet unit- and department-specific skill and competency expectations.
Respond promptly and courteously to patient call lights and requests for assistance from patients or families.
