About The Position

This position is in the Main OR department at UAB St. Vincent's East. The schedule is Monday-Friday 1100-1930, with rotating call and holiday call. The PCT - Patient Care Tech - Surgical Services performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. They assist operating room staff, including anesthesia providers, with technical aspects of patient care. Responsibilities include monitoring and controlling the operating room environment, cleaning and disinfecting the surgical suite and equipment, disposing of soiled linen and waste, and cleaning anesthetizing locations. The role also involves caring for ancillary anesthesia equipment, transporting patients and supplies, lifting and positioning patients safely, and assisting patients with personal care. The PCT reports findings to nursing staff, documents necessary records, and performs technical duties such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs. They also obtain and record vital signs, weight, and input/output. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
  • Assists the operating room staff including the anesthesia providers with certain technical aspects of patient care.
  • Monitors and controls the operating room environment.
  • Cleans and disinfects the surgical suite and/or reusable equipment and supplies.
  • Disposes soiled linen and solid wastes.
  • Cleans anesthetizing location.
  • Cares for ancillary anesthesia equipment.
  • Transports patients, equipment, instruments, specimens and supplies.
  • Lifts and positions patients according to practice standards.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient and personal safety.
  • Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Documents necessary records.
  • Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
  • Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
