About The Position

The Psych CPEP unit is a 46-bed facility divided into sections, including a Fast Track/Triage area. The unit primarily serves patients with severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma. While patients may have comorbidities, they are typically medically stable; medically unstable patients are transferred out. Security is available in-house 24/7, housed in the ER. The unit has a Director who oversees the facility, and a Charge Nurse who coordinates the unit and assists staff without taking a patient assignment. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 to administer breathing treatments and assist with respiratory needs, and they are equipped to intubate patients. Cardiac monitoring is available with Tele Techs overseeing, but RNs are expected to identify major rhythms, life-threatening rhythms, and rhythm changes. X-ray and CT are available in the ER, and PCTs are responsible for transporting patients for these procedures.

Requirements

• BLS certification
• CPI certification
• Phlebotomy experience
• 12 Lead EKGs experience
• Ability to identify major rhythms, life-threatening rhythms, and rhythm changes on cardiac monitoring
• Experience with IM injections and PO medication administration
• Experience with psychotropic medications

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy (blood draws)
• Administer 12 Lead EKGs
• Conduct 1:1 patient monitoring
• Transport patients
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
• Perform patient contraband searches
• Conduct property inventory
• Assist physicians and nurses
• Administer IM injections and PO medications, including psychotropics (Haldol, Zyprexa, Ativan, etc.)
