About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) on the Telemetry Step Down unit at Texas Health Plano provides assistance to patients according to the plan of care. This role involves collecting patient data, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and revising patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences. The PCT performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and documents care accurately. They collaborate with nurses to adapt care to the patient population, incorporating cultural and religious needs, and maintain a clean and safe patient environment. The PCT also anticipates and meets the needs of patients, families, and visitors, and performs appropriate rounding. The Telemetry Step Down 5C Department is fast-paced, offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, and provides opportunities for educational and career growth, with a robust Unit Based Council and engaged leadership team. The professional PCT exhibits an understanding of basic human needs.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required Or 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.

  • Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately.
  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
