The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves monitoring patients' conditions, providing updates to the healthcare team, and delivering direct and indirect care to meet patients' comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs. The technician will ensure the assigned clinical location is safe, clean, and stocked, and will maintain supplies, educational materials, and equipment to promote quality patient care outcomes. A key aspect of this role is contributing to the patient experience by accurately identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any patient incidents or concerns to the appropriate personnel. The technician will also obtain and record patient information, collect specimens, attend mandatory training, and ensure patient safety through participation in hospital initiatives. Establishing and maintaining courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, and the healthcare team is essential, as is demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of others and responding promptly to instructions. The Patient Care Technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills for equitable, age-appropriate care for neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
