About The Position

The Patient Care Specialist, under the supervision of Manager, Operations & Compliance, assists in the various activities of the pharmacy operations not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. The Patient Care Specialist is primarily responsible for incoming and outgoing calls from customers regarding drug delivery, set-up and all related services.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
One (1) year of experience working in a high volume pharmacy, or equivalent setting, required, or six (6) months as a temporary associate in the Patient Care Specialist role or Reliance Operations & Compliance department.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Aptitude for working with other health care professionals.
Ability to lift a minimum of 5lbs.

Nice To Haves

National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.
Experience working with on line claims processing system preferred.

Responsibilities

Answer patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies and available services via incoming and outgoing calls.
Act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies.
Facilitate communication between patients and doctors, medical staff and administrative staff.
Maintain patient records, including filing and documentation duties.
Set up and data entry.
Packaging and shipping.
Handle financial arrangements and collect co-payments.
Manage coordination of benefits.
Coordinate financial assistance.
Assist with Prior Authorizations with offices.
Perform billing.
Work as a team member within the patient services department and all other departments to promote information sharing and continuous process improvement.
Function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist.
