About The Position

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, providing or assisting with patient care under the supervision of an RN. The SICU cares for heart, vascular, trauma, neurology, orthopaedic, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal surgical patients, using advanced clinical technologies and equipment. The PCNA coordinates with fellow caregivers to help create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients. The role offers opportunities for educational advancement, skills development, and career progression within Cleveland Clinic. The position works nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or obtain certification during the new-hire period.
Nursing students must have BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross before hire.
Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level.

Nice To Haves

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.

Responsibilities

Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including taking vital signs and weight, assisting with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers and transport, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
Help keep patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
