Medina Hospital’s 2 North Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializes in the care of cardiac and neurological patients who require close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. Our dedicated team provides expert care for patients with complex medical conditions, including those recovering from cardiac events, stroke and other neurological disorders. The PCU serves as an intermediate care unit, bridging the gap between intensive care and general medical-surgical care, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, specialized treatment tailored to their needs. Our skilled nurses are trained in advanced cardiac and neurological interventions, delivering compassionate and evidence-based care to optimize patient outcomes. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on the team, you will assist and provide direct patient care while supervised by a Registered Nurse (RN). This position involves heavy patient contact, including ADLs and ambulation assistance. A PCNA in this role should be familiar with identifying basic changes in patient status and have the ability to be flexible and multitask in a fast-paced environment. Here, you will have the chance to work alongside our nurses and physicians who are eager to teach, welcome new caregivers to the team and help them climb the professional ladder. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period
  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
