About The Position

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant works on M30, a 13-bed ICU Stepdown Unit at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. The unit provides specialized care for patients from newborns to young adults up to age 26, primarily caring for respiratory and post-surgical patients and serving as a bridge between intensive care and general inpatient units. As an upskilled unit, it cares for higher-acuity patients under the ICU service.

Working under the supervision of an RN and in coordination with other caregivers, the assistant helps provide patient care and create a welcoming, healing environment. The role offers opportunities for educational advancement, skills development, and career progression. The schedule is days, three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, obtained upon hire or within the new-hire period.
• Ability to perform full-body movement to move and lift patients, with manual finger dexterity and good eye-hand coordination; extensive standing and walking are required.
• Ability to perform medium work: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) is considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision, including taking vital signs and weight, assisting with personal care, performing point-of-care testing and dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions to an RN.
• Help keep patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
• Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
