The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute cares for patients with a variety of heart, vascular and thoracic diseases and provides the highest level of patient care, innovative treatments and a welcoming environment to all. These 24-bed Cardiovascular Telemetry Units specialize in the care of post–open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. The units offer a fast-paced, highly engaging environment that supports nursing growth and professional development, with opportunities to care for patients undergoing advanced and innovative cardiovascular procedures. The patient population includes individuals recovering from a wide range of heart surgeries and interventions, such as coronary artery bypass grafting, minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, ventricular assist device placement, and valve repair or replacement. Additional procedures cared for on these units include maze procedures, endarterectomy, and aneurysm repair, providing nurses with diverse and complex clinical experiences. Nursing teams on these units play a critical role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. This includes providing tailored patient education that addresses the unique discharge needs of cardiovascular patients, collaborating within specialized care teams to ensure optimal outcomes, and engaging in opportunities for community involvement through education and training initiatives. A caregiver in this position works days, from 7:00am—7:30pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hiring period
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
