As a Patient Care Associate (PCA), you'll play an important role in supporting patients, assisting the nursing team, and helping the unit run smoothly. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Previous clerical experience (preferably in a healthcare setting)
  • Ability to read and write at level 8, as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.
  • An ability to set appropriate priorities and organize workflow.
  • An ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail during frequent interruptions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to interface with support and professional staff and patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document patient vital signs
  • Assist patients with mobility and activities of daily living
  • Perform EKGs, blood draws, glucometer testing, and specimen collection after training
  • Support admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Assist with newborn baths as appropriate
  • Restock supplies, including infant and postpartum care items
  • Prepare patient rooms and maintain a clean, safe environment
  • Respond to patient needs and communicate changes to the nursing team
  • Support emergency situations by assisting with hemorrhage carts and obtaining blood products when needed
  • Collaborate closely with nurses and the interdisciplinary care team
