The primary role of the Nursing Assistant is to protect, sustain, and nurture the residents/patients that live at the Center. They provide assistance with activities of daily living, care of the resident/patient’s environment, and meet other needs as required. The goal of the work of the nursing assistant is to provide assistance that promotes a high quality of life for the residents/patients. The nursing assistant works as a member of a team that seeks to achieve a home like setting while maintaining excellence in all areas of care. In addition, the nursing assistant will demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and mission of Hebrew SeniorLife and recognize resident/patient’s dignity and choice in all aspects of daily life. They are an active participant in the activities, work, and social environment of the unit/households, and strive to make every resident/patient encounter into a positive and meaningful experience and opportunity, while ensuring the provision of safe and efficient quality care. The role requires demonstrating empathy and compassion with all interactions with residents and with families, articulating the importance of supporting independence and resident choice when caring for residents, demonstrating strong communication skills and ability to foster teamwork, articulating commitment to excellence and high quality care, and articulating the importance of accountability and personal ownership related to teamwork and resident care.
