About The Position

Performing under the direction of the RN/LPN and as a member of the unit-based patient care team, the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) performs duties of direct and indirect patient care. As delegated, the direct patient care tasks include but are not limited to. Indirect patient care activities include, but are not limited to, transport, restocking and/or obtaining patient care supplies. In addition, the PCA is responsible for responding in a timely manner to the needs of patients and family members and taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit. They function within policies, procedures and guidelines of St. Luke's Hospital in accordance with Joint Commission, CDC and OSHA standards.

Requirements

High School Graduate or equivalent preferred
Minimum of 1 years of clinical experience
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed to assist in providing patient care
Good organizational skills
Personal maturity
Accuracy and flexibility

Nice To Haves

Command of verbal and written English
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability, creating a favorable image in relationship to the Nursing Department and the hospital as a whole
Ability to perform simple math calculations
Must develop and maintain positive relationships across all areas of responsibility
Must visibly demonstrate commitment to customer relations and all basic concepts of continuous quality improvement and preventing error from reaching the patient

Responsibilities

Activities of daily living, vital signs, glucometry, EKG’s, weights and Intake/Output data collection
Transport, restocking and/or obtaining patient care supplies
Responding in a timely manner to the needs of patients and family members
Taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit
