About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant PRN is responsible for performing technical and clerical duties associated with the care and treatment of patients. This role involves providing basic patient care, ensuring patient safety, obtaining and recording vital signs, assisting with patient admissions and discharges, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. The Patient Care Assistant will also assist licensed nurses with assigned activities within their scope of practice and ensure adequate stocking of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • OR 3 - 5 plus years of relevant work experience.
  • Current JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Completion of Unit Specific Competency Based Orientation Program within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic patient care with consideration for age and developmental stage.
  • Assists with patient care in a way that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection, accidental contamination, and protects the patient from injury or harm.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, I/O’s, weights, bedside testing, and documents in the patient record as directed by the license nurse.
  • Delivers and obtains items from other areas of the hospital as required.
  • Prepares and assists with admissions, discharges, procedures, ambulating and transfers of patients.
  • Assists in monitoring adequate availability of equipment and stocking of supplies and equipment according to established PAR levels.
  • Monitors patients with restraints or on suicide precautions and documents as directed.
  • Assists and performs activities as assigned by the licensed nurse and within the scope of practice as outlined on the skills competency form.
  • Maintains a safe, clean work environment.
