About The Position

This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions). The role performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency, including simple wound care (i.e., cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span. This role promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. The Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR. They demonstrate the ability to follow the plan of care, including performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of the RN. This may include vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, and specimen collection. The role accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. They demonstrate accountability for ensuring the availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary for positive patient outcomes. The position maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment, stocking supplies, and placing equipment in proper storage areas. The individual demonstrates the ability to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA)
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept Medical Assistant Program Graduate
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting
