About The Position

This is a Full-Time Nights position (7pm-7am) where the Patient Care Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director. The role involves providing personal care to patients and maintaining their environment, including those needing special precautions. The position requires performing specified functions and tasks where competency is validated, such as simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and provide care according to departmental policy. The role also focuses on promoting and maintaining a safe work environment, incorporating national patient safety initiatives, and demonstrating understanding of technology systems for patient data collection into EMR. The position requires the ability to follow a plan of care, perform treatments and procedures competently and independently under the direction of an RN, accurately complete clinical and quality documentation, ensure availability of necessary resources, maintain a clean and orderly work/patient environment, and assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers efficiently.

Requirements

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care of the patients and their environment, including those needing special precautions.
  • Perform specified functions and tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment for staff as well as customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN.
  • Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
