The Patient and Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing of the patient using correct body mechanics. This role also involves ensuring patient comfort, following precaution signs, and transporting patients to their destinations. Additionally, the transporter may be responsible for moving patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. They are required to contact clinical staff immediately about any changes in a patient's condition or issues with patient equipment during transport. Accurate patient identification verification is crucial, comparing the ticket to ride with the patient's wristband. The transporter will use electronic software to track assignments and will collect and return equipment to proper holding areas, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment before and after use, and reporting any equipment in need of repair. Maintaining patient confidentiality is essential. The role may also include collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and picking up and delivering patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
