The Patient and Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing using good body mechanics. This role also involves transporting patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. The transporter must maintain patient comfort, follow all posted precaution signs, and contact clinical staff immediately regarding any changes in a patient's condition or equipment issues. Verification of patient identification is crucial, as is tracking assignments using electronic software. The role includes collecting and returning equipment, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment, and reporting any equipment in need of repair. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount. Additional duties may include collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and picking up/delivering patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
