About The Position

The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for timely and accurate billing and collections of hospital claims to patients and third party payers. Review and analyze information contained on claims for accurate submission to third party payers to remit payment. Responsible for all phases of billing and attaching appropriate documentation for payment. Analyzes payments and adjustments for accuracy. Displays flexibility regarding work assignments. This position also handles many responsibilities as it relates to customer service by handling all patient inquiries via telephone or walk-ins. These inquiries may include referrals to have accounts checked for charges, diagnosis, complaints about treatment, etc.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ experience of third party billing and follow up, in a healthcare setting

Responsibilities

  • Understand the importance of internal customer services.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship and communicate appropriately.

  • Act in a professional manner representing the department appropriately at all times.
  • Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance with third party payer and government billing requirements.
  • Respond to patient questions with concern at all times, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Perform audits of patient accounts to ensure accuracy and timely payment.
  • Verify insurance benefits for commercial, Medicare and Medicaid Payers via phone and website.
  • Identify and correct billing errors and resubmit claims.
  • Ensure timely follow up and appropriate escalation of outstanding claims with third party payers.
  • Review EOB’s and initiate appeals as necessary.
  • Verify payments and discounts with insurance carriers.
  • Work appeals and denials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
