About The Position

The Patient Account Representative works in the Patient Accounting department at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. This full-time, 40-hour day-shift role reviews patient charts and billing information, coordinates billing distribution, follows up on authorizations and specialty referrals, and communicates with patients and other parties by telephone. The representative also maintains knowledge of contracts and state Workers’ Compensation fee schedules and uses a computer to enter and retrieve data.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Knowledge of multiple insurance billing requirements.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Customer service experience required.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of business office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts for accuracy of patient and billing information.
• Distribute billing to appropriate personnel.
• Review and follow up on authorizations, specialty referrals, and physicians’ dictated notes.
• Communicate clearly and efficiently by telephone.
