About The Position

The Patient Account Representative (Biller) manages and resolves outstanding insurance claims and patient accounts to support accurate billing, timely reimbursement, and efficient revenue cycle operations. The role requires analytical skills, attention to detail, and collaboration with internal teams to support the organization’s financial health and a positive patient experience. This is a full-time, onsite position at Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical billing and collections experience in a hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of insurance claims processing, accounts receivable management, and reimbursement practices.
Proficiency in healthcare billing systems and electronic claims processing.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payers.
Psychiatric experience.

Responsibilities

Call third-party payors to check the status of outstanding claims.
Review claims issues, make corrections as needed, and rebill claims.
Use the claims clearinghouse to review and correct claims, and resubmit claims electronically when available.
Review explanations of benefits to confirm claims were processed and paid correctly.
Complete account adjustment forms and attach supporting documentation when adjustments are needed.
Manage daily productivity using the patient accounting system and productivity reports, maintaining an average of at least 30–40 accounts worked per day.
Prorate patient accounts and monitor that balances due are assigned to the correct financial class.
Report a weekly overview to the BOD and participate in accounts receivable meetings.
Gather and interpret system data, determine appropriate actions, and initiate timely, strategic steps to obtain payment.
Assist financial counselors as needed.
Alert financial counselors and the Business Office Director to benefit eligibility matters that may affect reimbursement.
