The Patient Account Representative is responsible for collections, account follow up, and billing allowance posting for assigned accounts. This role involves ensuring timely resolution of outstanding claims by following up with payers via various communication channels, accurately updating patient and financial information, and verifying the accuracy of billing information. The representative will monitor billings for accuracy, including Medicaid/healthy options coupons, and ensure hospital services are billed correctly and within expected timeframes. A key aspect of the role is explaining hospital payment regulations and maintaining a thorough understanding of insurance regulations and hospital insurance contracts. The position also requires identifying and reporting underpayments and denial trends, analyzing and resolving issues causing payment delays, initiating appeals when necessary, and manipulating Excel spreadsheets to communicate results. The representative must meet daily productivity and quality standards, act professionally and courteously, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to HIPAA standards regarding patient protected health information (PHI).
