About The Position

UW Medicine’s Patient Financial Services Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Account Representative 3. This role involves handling a high volume of calls with patients, families, insurance companies, attorneys, and corporate clients in a structured environment under set schedules and tight timeframes. The position requires obtaining and relaying detailed patient information to appropriate departments, researching, resolving, and responding to patient inquiries promptly, and assisting patients in understanding financial obligations and providing solutions to meet responsibilities. The role also includes conducting initial telephone screening for financial assistance, helping complete applications, coordinating with self-pay and collection partners, setting up and managing patient payment plans, preparing accounts receivable adjustments, and maintaining accurate records. Updating patient demographic, financial, and payer information, communicating with medical center staff, patients, and third-party payers, and reviewing patient account status are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves skip tracing return mail accounts, analyzing bankrupt or deceased patient accounts, maintaining spreadsheets, and drafting correspondence using Microsoft Excel and Word. The Patient Account Representative 3 will also assist in training and orienting new staff while meeting departmental quality and performance standards.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent
  • Three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service, or a related office environment
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities
