Responsibilities include responding to questions, forwarding issues to management, maintaining patient confidentiality, providing exceptional customer service, collecting patient demographic information, interacting with hospital departments and physicians to schedule and direct patients, reaching out to patients to schedule appointments, performing medical necessity checks, informing patients of financial account issues, completing out-of-pocket estimations, providing training, managing work schedules efficiently, cross-training between departments, participating in Quality Assurance reviews, and using service recovery skills. The role also involves communicating information regarding referrals and consultations, collecting authorization numbers, providing a professional communication environment, attending meetings, communicating customer satisfaction issues, demonstrating teamwork, accommodating all levels of communication ability, and utilizing various online systems for order retrieval and insurance verification. Additionally, the specialist will complete accurate handoff instructions in Epic, run real-time eligibility checks, send quality Epic Messages/Telephone encounters, and be proactive in preventing patient visit issues by double-checking test details, preps, conflicts, times, and locations. They will understand the minimum data set for registration, collect and verify critical data, monitor departmental quality metrics, analyze account activity, evaluate procedures for improvements, participate in quality improvement activities, monitor registration and scheduling, adjust processes to meet standards, use resources efficiently, act as a training resource, and understand that schedules may change to reflect business needs and evolve with healthcare policy changes.
