About The Position

This role involves receiving and interviewing patients to collect and verify demographic and financial data. The specialist will also verify insurance, initiate pre-authorization processes when needed, and collect required payments or make financial arrangements. All duties are to be performed in a courteous and professional manner. The position may also involve performing business office functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned
  • Two (2) years of Admissions, Billing, Collections, Insurance and/or Customer Service experience
  • Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database, data entry)
  • Mathematical skills

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients or other sources to gather financial, demographic, and employment information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA.
  • Enter accurate patient data into the computer database, update insurance information, and scan documents.
  • Follow up on incomplete or missing patient information.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online eligibility checks or phone inquiries.
  • Document all insurance verification information in the system.
  • Assign appropriate insurance plans and ensure correct insurance priorities.
  • Initiate the pre-certification process as required and obtain signed waivers when necessary.
  • Obtain required signatures and information on forms such as Consent Form, Liability Assignment, and Waiver Letter.
  • Receive payments, issue receipts, and work towards collection goals.
  • Maintain cash funds/verification logs and make daily deposits.
  • Prepare and distribute reports, documents, and patient identification items, including Privacy Notice, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Medicare Booklet, schedules, collection reports, armbands, and valuables.
  • Communicate estimated financial responsibility to patients and request payment prior to or at the time of service.
  • Refer patients needing extended terms to the Medical Services Payment Program and those needing financial assistance to appropriate programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
