This position involves receiving and interviewing patients to collect and verify demographic and financial data. The specialist will verify insurance, initiate pre-authorization when needed, and handle required payments or financial arrangements. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned
  • Two (2) years of Admissions, Billing, Collections, Insurance and/or Customer Service experience
  • Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database, data entry)
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
  • Mathematical skills

  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients or other sources to gather demographic, financial, and employment information, ensuring accuracy in the computer database and scanning documents.
  • Follow up on incomplete or missing information.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits using online tools or phone inquiries, documenting all information obtained and assigning appropriate insurance plans.
  • Initiate the pre-certification process as required and obtain signed waivers if necessary.
  • Obtain required signatures and information on forms such as Consent Form, Liability Assignment, and Waiver Letter.
  • Receive payments, issue receipts, and work towards collection goals, maintaining cash funds and making daily deposits.
  • Prepare and distribute reports, documents, and patient identification items, including Privacy Notice, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Medicare Booklet, schedules, and patient armbands.
  • Communicate estimated financial responsibility to patients and request payment prior to or at the time of service.
  • Refer patients needing extended terms or financial assistance to appropriate programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
