About The Position
Inova Family Medicine - Oakton is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist. The role adheres to Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards while supporting patient admissions and scheduling, verifying insurance, and providing financial counseling. This is a full-time position with a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Patient Access Specialist handles patient intake, registration, documentation, administrative and technology operations, case-related follow-up, insurance and contract coordination, patient inquiries, referrals, scheduling, transport coordination, and support for Health Information Management and Utilization Review processes. The position may include other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of patient access experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage complex patient intake, registration, and documentation cases; resolve errors, confirm authorizations, validate documents, and index them.
- Prepare schedules, track records, and navigate multiple systems.
- Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
- Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
- Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
- Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups with patients.
- Educate patients about kiosks and report usage trends.
- Coordinate with departments, tailor communications, and support patients.
- Validate insurance and track referral status.
- Schedule specialty visits and coordinate preparation.
- Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
- Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information (ROI).
- Provide documentation to Utilization Review (UR) teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
