About The Position

Responsible for registering all patient types within the department. Works daily reports and account work queues to ensure the integrity of registration data. The Patient Access Representative supports critical Revenue Cycle functions, understands regulatory compliance, maintains patient safety through correct patient identification practices, and provides excellent customer service. This is a labor-pool position working as needed in the Emergency Department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of billing, customer service, or patient registration experience is preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification from the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) within one year is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain or validate patient information and register patients in the software system while providing a high level of customer service.
• Obtain and document all necessary demographic and financial data in the system.
• Maintain patient safety through correct patient identification practices and protect the confidentiality of patient protected health information (PHI).
• Work daily reports and account work queues to ensure the integrity of registration data.
• Handle patient inquiries related to registration.
• Calculate payment information and accept funds and credit accounts for time-of-service collections.
• Adhere strictly to EMTALA rules and regulations when registering patients through the Emergency Department and Obstetrics.
• Complete forms and collect documents as needed based on registration type.
