Geisinger’s Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries every day — all while maintaining empathy, professionalism and providing a positive patient experience. The role is responsible for front line support to the department, coordinating and performing front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. This includes greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check out process, and scheduling future appointments as applicable. PARs are responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics, ensuring all check-in procedures are completed and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary. They must read and interpret insurance responses, understand general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. Additionally, they ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtain necessary legal and financial signatures, communicate financial obligations to patients, and collect fees at time of service as appropriate. PARs complete patient visits by scheduling any necessary follow-up appointments, process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests, and notify patients of anticipated financial responsibility. They perform cash posting, abide by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, and independently work work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts. Maintaining productivity and quality performance expectations, high regard for confidentiality, and accurately performing medical record maintenance and releases are also key responsibilities. Assisting with referrals and pre-certifications, and properly utilizing and maintaining patient recall and reschedule lists are also part of the role. Work is typically performed in an office environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
