Geisinger’s Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries every day — all while maintaining empathy, professionalism and providing a positive patient experience. This role is responsible for front line support to the department, coordinating and performing front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. The PAR greets and registers incoming patients, supports the patient check out process, and schedules future appointments as applicable. They are responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics, assuring all check-in procedures are completed and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary. The role involves reading and interpreting insurance responses, understanding general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. The PAR ensures patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtains necessary legal and financial signatures, communicates financial obligations to patients, and collects fees at the time of service as appropriate. They also communicate the purpose of and complete all necessary regulatory forms with patients, and complete patient visits by scheduling any necessary follow-up appointments, including specialty or ancillary services. The position processes multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints, and notifies patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collects accordingly. Additional duties include performing cash posting following department guidelines, abiding by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights, and independently working work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts. Maintaining productivity and quality performance expectations, and a high regard for confidentiality are essential. The role also involves accurately performing medical record maintenance and releases, assisting with referrals and pre-certifications at the time of encounter, and properly utilizing and maintaining patient recall and reschedule lists. Work is typically performed in an office environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
