About The Position

This is a full-time position with an evening shift, working 64 hours per pay period from 6:30 PM to 3:00 AM, including every other weekend and holidays as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This role offers a great opportunity for a Patient Access Representative professional to work in an organization that focuses on treating the whole person, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The position is in an outpatient or urgent care setting where the representative will greet patients and family members, obtain and verify demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information for patient registration. Responsibilities include entering patient/guarantor data into the patient accounting system, collecting signatures, and scanning registration documents. The role also involves obtaining and processing physician orders, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, collecting patient liabilities, and referring cases to financial counseling. The Patient Access Representative will enhance the patient experience through face-to-face interactions and may provide escort and directional support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Data entry skills (50-60 keystrokes per minute)
  • Fluid experience with various software programs and ability to use multiple systems to obtain or validate information during the interview process.
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of applicable experience in a healthcare provider or payer environment.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and family members.
  • Obtains and verifies demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information for patient registration.
  • Enters patient/guarantor data in patient accounting system.
  • Collects patient signatures on forms.
  • Scans registration documents.
  • Obtains and processes signed physician orders.
  • Conducts online insurance eligibility/benefit verification.
  • Notifies patient/guarantor and collects patient liabilities.
  • Refers appropriate cases to financial counseling.
  • May provide escort and directional support to patients, family members, and visitors.
  • Enhances the patient experience throughout all patient interactions.
  • Ensures patient safety by authenticating patient identity throughout all essential functions.
  • Performs patient registration tasks including interviewing patient to collect data.
  • Creates Electronic Medical Records.
  • Validates and enters data related to procedures, tests, and diagnoses.
  • Confirms patient identity.
  • Prepares patient identification forms.
  • Assigns appropriate payor or guarantor based on visit/encounter to comply with HIPAA compliance to ensure prompt billing cycle.
  • Acquires necessary documents including patient identification, insurance cards, consent to treatment, assignment of benefits, release of information, waivers, ABNs, advance directives, etc.
  • Identifies need for patient/guarantor signature based on patient encounter/visit.
  • Obtains or scans documents as needed.
