Geisinger’s Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries every day — all while maintaining empathy, professionalism and providing a positive patient experience. The role is responsible for front line support to the department, coordinating and performing front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. This includes greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check out process, and scheduling future appointments. PARs are responsible for accurately verifying demographics, ensuring all check-in procedures are completed, and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes as necessary. They must also interpret insurance responses, understand general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. Additionally, PARs ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtain legal and financial signatures, communicate financial obligations, and collect fees at the time of service. They complete regulatory forms, schedule necessary follow-up appointments, and process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests. PARs notify patients of anticipated financial responsibility and collect accordingly, perform cash posting, and abide by organizational and HIPAA guidelines. They independently work work queues, maintain productivity and quality performance expectations, and uphold high regard for confidentiality. Medical record maintenance and releases are performed accurately. The role also assists with referrals and pre-certifications and properly utilizes and maintains patient recall and reschedule lists. Work is typically performed in an office environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
