The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and represents BJC with a high standard of customer service, compassion, and professionalism. The role facilitates patients’ entry into BJC facilities and requires emotional intelligence, attention to detail, and the ability to connect with patients whose needs and acuity vary. Accurate collection of demographic and insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection help maximize reimbursement and prevent denials. Correctly selecting a patient from the Master Patient Index (MPI) is critical to patient safety and record integrity. The position requires knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements. This position performs hospital registration and scheduling across multiple BJC systems. Duties include identifying patients, registering and scheduling them, verifying insurance, scanning and retrieving documents, validating orders, providing procedure preparation instructions, explaining financial responsibilities, and collecting applicable payments. The role also requires understanding and enforcing compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer requirements, HIPAA Privacy Standards, the Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO requirements. Each patient completes a HIPAA acknowledgement. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices. The position is full-time, with three 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Rotating weekends and holidays are required. Daily pay is available.
