About The Position

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre-registration, registration and admission functions for Mercy Medical Center Emergency Department. This role involves verifying insurance requirements, collecting upfront payments such as co-pays and high deductibles, and ensuring accuracy of demographic, financial, and advanced directives information. The representative will also collect non-covered fees, input data into the Meditech system, and complete all phases of the registration process, including patient bracelets, patient rights, and Health Care Proxy information. Additionally, this position coordinates bed assignments and maintains death books, releasing information to funeral homes as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical terminology skills
  • Excellent customer service, verbal communication and interpersonal skills required

Nice To Haves

  • College preferred
  • Relevant medical office, hospital / physicians billing or patient registration experience preferred
  • Third week is required for individuals with less than one year experience in patient registration in a hospital

Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance requirements
  • Responsible for upfront collections, co-pays and high deductibles
  • Ensure that all entries concerning demographic, financial and advanced directives are accurate
  • Collect non-covered fees
  • Inputs data into Meditech system
  • Complete all phases of registration process, (i.e.) other papers, patient bracelet, patient rights, Health Care Proxy info etc
  • Coordinate bed assignment for all patients and maintains death books and releases information to funeral homes
